Report

This report has been prepared for the Sustainable Tower Blocks Initiative,
an informal grouping of voluntary organisations. The Initiative is seeking to discover and implement ways to make Tower Blocks better and more sustainable places to live, learning from existing practice and experience, and working with the residents of these blocks.

At a time when there is a debate about future demand for housing in our cities, those involved in the Initiative feel that Tower Blocks can have an important role to play both in housing people and in creating more sustainable towns and cities.

This first report seeks to identify the issues that must be tackled and the problems
that must be solved if high-rise housing is to fulfil that role.

This report has been written by Chris Church and Toby Gale
and is published for the
stbi by the Shell Better Britain Campaign.
